About Kilgore

Healing is a journey of discovery. Let it begin at Kilgore.

For more than three decades, the Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center has been nurturing the healing process for both individuals and families. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we provide counseling services to all members of the community regardless of their ability to pay.

Kilgore Samaritan is a faith-sensitive, non-profit counseling center that understands the importance of the relationship between a person’s spiritual growth and their emotional and physical well-being.

Our compassionate staff has both theological and counseling training that helps us to express the love and grace of God through a ministry of pastoral counseling that is respectful of all religions and the faith of our clients. However, our mission is to serve all those in need even if they are not faith driven or spiritually oriented.

Our staff leverages their behavioral science experience, knowledge and understanding to help both individuals and families plot a course to improve your quality of life. We care. With seven highly skilled counselors and therapists, including psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed clinical alcohol and drugs counselor, licensed marriage and family therapists and pastoral counselors, we are here to help.

We provide specialized counseling for families and individuals, especially for children, adolescents, and the elderly. We offer pastoral and faith-sensitive relationship counseling, marriage therapy, behavior consulting, and substance use prevention and addiction, as well as psychological testing.

Unique to Kilgore is our specialization in providing assistance to the Clergy and helping with Congregational Care. We work with local ministers and congregations by offering premarital counseling, and educational programs that deal with parenting, divorce, couples communications, and family issues.

We also work directly with the clergy and other religious professionals who face difficult situations in their own lives. Kilgore has expanded its reach in serving greater Louisville by partnering with the West End School, The Healing Place and Jefferson County Public Schools.

The Kilgore Samaritan Counseling center was established in 1987 through the vision and dedication of Betty Moss Gibbs and is named in memory of her father, Ben Kilgore.

With the support and guidance of Second Presbyterian Church and St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church and their extended ministries, we are ready to answer the call to your needs.

We must learn to regard people less in light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.
